The sexually transmitted disease genital herpes comes in two types, type 1 and type 2.  Usually there are very few symptoms.  When signs appear it can sometimes be a small blister that leave behind ulcers.  A few weeks later, the ulcers disappear.  Outbreaks occur within weeks or months and gradually decrease over time.  One out of six people between the ages of 14 to 49 are infected with genital herpes type 2.  The infection is more common in women than men.  Herpes can be spread even when an outbreak is not visible.  Herpes type 1, also known as fever blisters,  can cause genital herpes.  Currently, there is no cure for herpes but treatment can help prevent outbreaks and reduce the likely hood of transmitting the disease to a partner.  If left untreated, herpes can cause mental problems.

If you currently do not know your status, please make an appointment.  There are many free clinics.  Call you local health department.  I know it may to scary but it’s best to know so that we can slow down the infection rates.

On a side note: You can still get the disease even while wearing a condom!  Abstinence is the safest way to protect yourself.  Please visit: http://www.cdc.gov for more information.

Syphilis is caused by a bacterium that was nicknamed “the great imitator” due to the fact that it often times mimics the symptoms of other sexually transmitted diseases.  In 2006, over 36,000 reports of syphilis was made.  Syphilis infects a person by direct contact with the sore.  The sores can be in the rectum, anus, vagina, genitals, lips or mouth.  There are many people who may have the disease for years with no symptoms.  It may start off as a rash, usually on the palms of hands and/or feet.  Some may have it for 10-20 years before symptoms develop.  Untreated syphilis can cause blindness, liver, brain and nerve damage or even death.

Syphilis is easily treated if caught during the early stages with in one year with antibiotics.  Even if you have had syphilis before, it is possible to be re-infected.  The best way to avoid an std, is to remain abstinent.  http://www.cdc.gov

On my last post, I told you all I would discuss why it seems like most of the std cases are within the African American community.  Even with Syphilis, African Americans are treated 3 times more, than Caucasians.    As an African American, I wanted to give this some additional thought.  Why is this the case?

Lil Wayne in the bed with multiple women

1. We have the highest number of single parent homes
2. Highest number of unemployment
3. The music we tend to listen to
4. The television programs we watch
I really want to address the music and television programs.  The music targeted at African Americans tell us that it’s okay to fornicate, have multiple partners “My girl got a girlfriend”, and being faithful to one mate is craziness.  The television shows targeted at African Americans says that men are hoes (and it’s okay) and women are only valuable for their bodies.  Take a look at most of the music videos by African American rappers.  It adds to the growing problem of std rates and no one is willing to take a stand.
I have never been one those ‘power to the people’, ‘black pride’ fist held high but I do not want to see my people die from sexually transmitted diseases.  There are many hate groups who are laughing at us as we kill off ourselves.  Time for a change.

I am usually asked the question about how to abstain until marriage.  Yes, I do want people to wait until they’re married to have sex but what do you do if you never get married?  Many people look ahead and think “If I could only make it until I get married!”.  This is the wrong way to go about things.  The goal should be to abstain.  The Bible says to “flee fornication” I Corinthians 6:18.  When or if you get married, you should be and feel complete.  When God made you, He made you a whole person.  He didn’t make you a half of a person.  Mark 10:8 “And they twain [two] shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain [two], but one flesh”.   Marriage takes two whole people and bring them together as one. Your husband or wife should add to you, not fill a void that God was supposed to be filling.  Be happy!  God made me complete, how about you? =]

Why are soul ties so dangerous?

First let’s define what a soul tie is.  A soul tie is two souls being joined together.  A soul tie can be formed through sex or through a close relationship or friendship.  Soul ties can turn dangerous depending on who it’s formed with.  Spirits will transfer from one person to the other.  Have you ever caught yourself saying things they say? Or all of a sudden eating foods that they normally like?  Soul tie.  A soul tie can be used to bring demonic activity into your life.  I recently had to step away from face book and    due to this particular reason.  The spirits that transferred during fornication tormented me day and night.  I was on the brink of losing my mind but God stepped in in the nick of time and freed me.  After that experience I realized how much of a blessing it is to have a “right” mind.  Don’t allow the devil the use soul ties to bring forth your demise.

Q.    The different categories of lust
A.     Lust is defined by dictionary.com as “a passionate or overmastering desire or craving” and “to have a yearning or desire; have a strong or excessive craving”.  So some one can have a lust for money, power, attention, etc.  Lust doesn’t always mean sexually.  As far as categories, there are none.

Q.     Christians listening to worldly R & B music
A.      I believe it depends on the lyrics.  You definitely shouldn’t listen to anything that is telling you it’s okay to commit certain sins.  It all comes down to having a spirit of discernment.  Once you hear a song, you should instantly know if it’s “enticing” your flesh.  And if it is, stop listening to it.

Why is sexual sin so “difficult” for people to stop?

Sex is everywhere! The world wants us to think that it’s not a big deal. The enemy uses the media to show us that sex is supposed to be “for everyone” even if unmarried. Satan is still using the same trick that he used in the Garden of Eden. He tells us that God is withholding something good from us and in actuality all God is trying to do is protect us. Everything that God does is for our good.
Fornication is a sin that appeases the flesh. It’s like marijuana, it temporary takes away the problems that you are facing, but once the act is over, the problems are still there. People use sex as a method to get rid of stress, to feel like some one desires them, because they’re bored, to prove a point, to show their manhood or womanhood, because of peer pressure, the list goes on. Fornication is a deadly sin but Satan wants people to believe “its not that serious”. Sounds just like the Garden of Eden huh?

Q.     How to become stronger while waiting on the LORD to bring you a husband/wife. Its hard for us, especially if youre older and have been out in the world for a while.
A.     Keep yourself busy. Study the word of God. Allow God to be that husband. Let him fill in the void. To be honest, not every one will marry. That’s the reality of things. So it’s best to look to God as the source for EVERYTHING you need. Tell Him “I will love you God, even if I never get married.
